Orlistat is a medicine used to treat obesity. Orlistat blocks some of the fat you eat, preventing it from being absorbed by the body. Orlistat is used to aid in weight loss, or to help reduce the risk of regaining lost weight. This medicine should be used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet. Orlistat is for use in adults only. The recommended dose is one 120 mg capsule taken with each of the three main meals of the day. It can be taken immediately before, during, or up to an hour after food. The capsule must be ingested with water. Orlistat should be taken with a calorie-controlled diet, well balanced, rich in fruits and vegetables, and containing an average of 30% of calories from fat. Your daily intake of fats, carbohydrates, and protein should be spread over three meals. This means that you will usually take one capsule for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. For optimal benefits, avoid eating fat-containing foods between meals, such as cookies, chocolate, or salty snacks.
